History
The town of The Hague is located in a coastal region of south-west Holland. Because the area is below sea level dike management has always been a crucial issue.
The Delfland Water Authority has been founded in the year of 1289 as a regional organisation responsible for flood protection (flood control) and water drainage. The Water Authority is also responsible for guarding water quality and waste water treatment.
The first pressurized pipe for the disposal and transport of wastewater to sea was laid in 1934.
