The Houtrust waste water treatment plant has a maximal hydraulic capacity for 39,600 cubic metres per hour. Wastewater is transported by means of 18 waste water pumping stations and pressure pipes (total length of 80 km). After treatment, the effluent is discharged into the sea at a distance of 2.5 km offshore. Dewatered sludge is transported to an incineration plant (around 40 truckloads per week).
