In 1995, the Houtrust treatment plant was adapted for chemical phosphorus removal with ferric chlorosulphate (FeClSO4). The plant renovation programme implies the adaptation of the plant for biological phosphorus removal and nitrogen removal in order to comply with the European regulations.
